The fetishisation of MLM (men loving men) has long been an issue – particularly in fandoms – and there has been a lot of discourse around this and the inappropriate sexualisation of teenagers in the YA and bookish community recently. This is a huge topic, and way more than we could ever cover in one post, but it’s something that must continue to be discussed. Content warning: fetishisation, hypersexualisation, homophobia.Continue reading “The Issue of Fetishising Queer Characters in YA”
Over the past few months, I’ve found myself falling into a new interest in the form of Studytube. I’ve shocked myself as I’ve never been someone who subscribes to YouTubers or even watches them regularly. I watch a few Booktube videos every now and then but I’m not great at keeping up with them and it’s not very often I watch them as they are posted. Finding Studytube has been a slight revelation for me and has inspired me greatly learn new things and discovering new projects to work on. Continue reading “Studytube Appreciation”
Podcasts are something I never thought I’d be into. I’ve always thought of myself as a very visual and active learner who struggles with just audio as I get distracted with what to do at the same time as listening because I can’t focus on purely audio so I’ve never really given podcasts a fair chance. Recently however, I changed that and wow am I glad! I still have to be doing something while I listen – for example, at my current job we spend quite a while cleaning after the shop shuts, so that’s perfect. Walking or doing my make up are another couple of times I like to listen and can focus. So if you struggle like me with just audio, maybe try listening while doing something else which doesn’t need much focus!
I’m going to do a series of posts on podcasts; recommendations, reviews, read-alongs, those sort of things. First up has to be the whole reason I decided to give podcasts a go; Banging Book Club!
I started watching Hannah Witton on YouTube just over six months ago and she’s one of about four YouTubers I watch. I find her content really fun and interesting as well as educational – something which I haven’t usually found before! It’s kind of important to note here that I don’t usually watch many YouTubers – I’m certain there are many engaging and educational people but I just haven’t watched and expanded my knowledge of them! I’ve read her book, Doing It!, and watched her live show so this post is kind of a two in one review; I think it will be good to review them in relation to each other!
