I’m sure we are all sick of hearing things along the lines of ‘this is an unprecedented time right now’ but…this is an unprecedented time right now! We have all had to learn to adapt many aspects of our lives, some more than others. Though my life hasn’t changed too drastically, I have struggled a little more recently with self care and just generally spending time to myself. Logically, it seems this would be easier since I can’t go out and see people, however I have found it harder. It helps to get my thoughts down in words often so here’s a little chat about how I have changed and adapted my self care routines. Continue reading “How my Self Care Routines have Changed”

Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen
A few years ago, I watched the film adaptation of Girl, Interrupted and ever since I’ve been wanting to give the book a go. I’ve been very much in a non-fiction mood recently and I’ve been taking advantage of this and reading a fair few non-fiction books on my shelves, including this memoir from Susanna Kaysen! Thoughts below. Continue reading “Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen”
World Mental Health Day – Blogtober
Today is Mental Health Awareness Day which you have probably seen a bit about online – I think it’s really picked up profile in the past couple of years which is amazing! Obviously it’s important to talk about mental health all year round but I think awareness days and weeks are great for highlighting issues and bringing them to the forefront. I thought I’d do a little post about books I’ve read which I think capture mental health issues brilliantly. Of course, this is going to be a bit subjective and some may disagree but these are books which resonated with me in some way.
LGBTQ+ Book Club – Summer Bird Blue – Blogtober
A little later than usual but here is our Book Club update post! Over September, we read Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman, an author me and Sarah both love the work of. It’s probably the saddest book we will have read to date (though not in terms of the sexuality representation!) which we did warn everyone about prior to starting it. It’s also the first book we have read with asexual and aromantic representation, something which we will of course be reading more of within coming months. The Million Pieces of Neena Gill by Emma Smith Barton
I picked the ARC of this book up at NYA Lit Fest in Preston. That was in March and I’ve been wanting to read it for a while now. I started reading it over a month ago I think but was super busy with my job at the time and had no spare time to read. I honestly really thought this book was great and I love that it covers such a taboo area in mental illness – psychosis. Continue reading “The Million Pieces of Neena Gill by Emma Smith Barton”
Matt Haig – Notes On A Nervous Planet at HOME MCR (BEDM)
Trigger warning: Anxiety, depression, suicide, eating disorders & in depth mental health talks later on.
A few days go, i had the pleasure of seeing Matt Haig talk again, this time at HOME in Manchester. Myself and Sophie travelled to Doncaster last year for his tour of Notes On A Nervous Planet, and hearing Matt talk about his own issues with anxiety and depression was so inspiring and relatable, i wanted to see him again.

Book Blogging & Mental Health
I have a bit of a strange relationship with blogging, reading and generally keeping up with the book blogging community lately. I know I’ve never been the most present on our Twitter and Sarah writes most of the posts for the blog but I’ve felt quite isolated in the online community recently. The reasons are nothing to do with anyone in it but my state of mind right now. This post is mainly just me wanting to vent a little about my conflicting thoughts and also to ask if anyone else has felt similar or has any tips!
