The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers

Book Review Header

Someone please tell me why i’ve been putting this book off for so long? I went through a stage a while ago i felt brave enough to buy it and have it on my shelf as something i might actually read in the future. One of my friends absolutely adores this book, and with a gentle push from her to choose it for this months book club pick, i finally picked it up.

They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera

Book Review Header

They Both Die At The End was our book club pick for September 2019 – we really spread the joy with this one (and i’m incredibly late to uploading this review!). It was my second Adam Silvera novel and I can safely confirm they’re all going to be as sad as each other. However, I enjoyed this one a whole lot more.

My Heart Goes Bang – Keris Stainton

Book Review Header

I’ve heard endless good things about Keris’ books in the last few years, however despite actually attending an writing workshop with her once, i’ve only just gotten around to reading one of her books. My Heart Goes Bang was not on my radar at all, that was until all my friends started to give it five stars.

What Makes a Five Star Book?

Chat HeaderI’ve been using Goodreads a lot more recently as well as Letterboxd (pretty similar but better features and for films! Give us the half star option Goodreads, please!) and this has made me rate books using a star rating more. I never used to do this much a few years ago and I think blogging has made me more aware of it but I really struggle with them sometimes. Seeing everyone else rate a book with star ratings makes me subconsciously do it now and sometimes I really struggle and just write a paragraph about how I feel overall about the book as well as what I liked and disliked. I am intrigued however, by how people work their star ratings and I wanted to have a little chat about it. Continue reading “What Makes a Five Star Book?”

Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman

Book Review Header

I’d been looking forward to starting Starfish for a while and I am so, so glad I’ve read it now! It is absolutely amazing and brought me out of a bit of a reading slump. I think I needed something with heavier themes as I’ve been reading a lot of light stories lately and I wanted something with a bit more to it. This is Akemi Dawn Bowman’s first novel and honestly, what a debut to have. I can’t wait to read her future books.  Continue reading “Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman”

BEDM: Release by Patrick Ness – Review

Book Review Header

Patrick Ness has very quickly become one of my favourite authors in the last few years. I find his books so very relatable but with twists that make them extraordinary. I’m sure so many others feel the same way as his books are extremely well received. Release is his latest release (ha) and i was lucky enough to attend a talk with him about this book, you can see my full post on it HERE.
