A Wrinkle in Time – Adaptation Chat

adaptationI had never heard of A Wrinkle in Time before it was announced that Ava DuVernay (amazing director and massive inspiration) would be directing the adaptation, working with Disney. I then found it’s quite a well-known book but I’m unsure if that’s more so in America than the UK. I was super excited about the film and figured I may as well read the book before watching it because it sounded like quite an interesting concept. I finished the book in February and got chance to watch the adaptation a couple of weeks ago. Here’s a little chatty review of both the book and the film!

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda Book and Film Chat

adaptation29473246_1700014890046096_7895038312623112192_o.jpgI’ve heard about this book by Becky Albertelli for a long, long time and I always meant to pick it up. I finally did buy it in February (mainly because the film was approaching and I needed to get a read on before I saw it!). My girlfriend managed to get us free tickets to an early screening of the adaptation, Love, Simon, at the Vue cinema in Manchester so I was able to see it on the 19th February! I sped read the book the weekend before and had only a few pages left before I sat down ready for the movie. I just want to have a little chat about the book and the film and what I thought about them!  Continue reading

Everything, Everything – Adaptation Chat

adaptationYesterday, Sarah and I saw the Everything, Everything film together with our fri21198498_1499375420110045_880013391_o.jpgend Becca. We’ve been looking forward to seeing this film ever since it was announced so it was so fun to go together! The film was just released in the UK on Friday and I wanted to do a post for those who have either already seen it or want to (also, for myself because I love love love writing about adaptations!)

I remember reading this book last summer and completely falling in love with it. I loved how light and fun and adorable the story was along with more hard hitting plot lines. I think the mixture of the two is quite difficult to do but Nicola Yoon (who I absolutely adore) nails it.  Continue reading

Adaptation Chat – A Monster Calls

I love books, I love films – why not combine the two together and talk about how much I adore them? I want to talk about A Monster Calls, directed by J.A. Bayona and based on the book written by Patrick Ness! It’s a bit of a messy chat but hey, I needed to release some feelings.

Film Tie-In Books

The new Ghostbusters film was released on DVD and Blu-ray today (I got my pretty steelbook delivered, I’m very happy) so I think it is a good time to talk about film tie-in books. I’m using the term pretty loosely as I want to talk about a whole variety of them not just one type. I wanted to also talk about books like Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and the novelisation of the latest Star Wars film which are brilliant in their own way.

Upcoming Film Adaptations

Every so often we like to do an update on upcoming film adaptations (look out for a TV one soon, its coming!) As someone who loves books and films, I love looking into what is going to be adapted! Even though some can be awful failures that I like to pretend don’t exist, many adaptations bring a new and interesting light to a story. They also show some  aspects we just can’t get from novels, like brilliant actors and beautiful scores and soundtracks. Here are some adaptations that are coming in the next couple of months!
