Books by Black Authors

List HeaderWe wanted to write a post highlighting some books by Black authors that both/one of us have read, ones that we own and want to read, and ones we are currently reading. It’s so important to support Black creators not just now but always. Both Sarah and I want to do better and are taking meaningful action to do so. At the start of this list we have linked some articles and blog posts by Black people recommending books by Black authors as well as some lists of films to watch to educate yourself. We will also share in this list some resources for the Black Lives Matter movement, including links to donations and petitions, educational resources and info for protestors. We stand in complete solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and we vow to do better to help the Black community in any way we can.

Trigonometry BBC Two Review

Review HeaderThe two of us at The Little Contemporary Corner have recently watched a BBC Two series called Trigonometry and we absolutely adore it. It’s a fantastic show focusing on three people who develop a deep connection and fall in love with each other, depicting a positive and diverse representation of polyamory. At the moment it feels like every man, woman and dog are talking about diversity and representation in novels. Specifically YA novels. It’s true that a lot of young stories are being improved by own voice authors, and authors who are willing to put themselves on the line to talk about a character that might represent a minority. However, that’s not always the case.
