Last year, I set some goals for my reading and I completed barely any of these! To be completely honest, I barely even thought about them! I’ve realised that for me, yearly goals aren’t something I find helpful. They didn’t work for me last year and I’m changing the way I’m setting my goals this year. Continue reading
So, i’ve realised that i might have a little bit of a book buying problem. I’ve identified it, admitted it and now i’m working to change it. I have developed some unhealthy habits you might say in the last few years, and i want to talk about that a little bit.
I thought I’d do a bit of a post about my feelings on the kind of books I want to read this year as well as a bit of a haul. I’ve never actually done a book haul (yes, this is clearly Sophie, not Sarah!) so this is kind of my first one! I received so many books as gifts for Christmas and bought quite a few myself in December so I figured it would be a good idea to showcase them a little. Continue reading
I’ve talked a lot about buying second hand books on this blog already. I’ve never been shy about telling you all that most of my books (or a great chunk of them) come from charity shops and second hand in other ways. There are so many reasons why buying second hand is a good thing!
It’s been quite a while since i’ve done a book haul. My lent goal this year was to not buy books while it lasted, and i actually achieved it! However, i may have put some in the store cupboard at work for when it was over, and i also treated myself to a few Amazon purchases in the first hour after it ended. Along with that and being on holiday and some new releases, i’ve managed to acquire quite a few new books in the last month or so. I would by lying if i said i’d remember everything i got, so here’s a snippet of what’s joined my shelves recently.
I talk a lot on this blog about the ‘book ban’ that i am regularly on, but then i know i post book hauls quite often. I can understand this is a little confusing and looks like i’m cheating or slacking a lot of the time. When in reality, i’m not (I promise!) So this post is to explain what my book ban is about and how you can put your on a much stricter book ban if you’re really struggling!
Have you ever bought a book just so it will look nice on your shelf? Who are we kidding? We all definitely have done that! It’s always a very big risk spending your hard earned cash on a cover buy book because you might get it home, look at the reviews on amazon and realise what a terrible mistake you’ve made when it’s only rated one star. Yes, we all have done that too. However there are some books that turn out to be the most magical books you’ve ever read that stemmed from just a cover buy!
