Markus Zusak Event (Blogmas)

imageAt the end of October, me, Sarah and our friend, Louise, got tickets to a talk and signing with Markus Zusak at Waterstones Deansgate in Manchester. I was so excited because I adore The Book Thief and definitely see it as one of my favourite books. After a long 13 year wait (something he kept bringing up himself!) for his next book, it’s finally here! The event and signing was to celebrate his new novel, Bridge of Clay, which I’m currently reading.  Continue reading

November Book Haul (Blogmas)

I made a promise to myself that i wouldn’t buy any more books until Christmas unless it was an important release. Similar to the rest of the starts of these posts, i’ve completely failed that, so here’s another book haul!

Reads Too Close To Home (Blogmas)

chatI’ve been thinking a lot recently about what stories I want to read because I’ve been in a bit of a slump in terms of reading/watching films/anything! I just can’t settle on what I want to consume. I’ve also stopped reading or watching a few things I enjoy because the themes or stories are too close to home for me. If they feel too real to me, in terms of something I’ve felt or been through before, I’ve had to put it down and stop. Continue reading

Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera Interview

32357878781_c3c8e59425_bAt the end of October, we got the amazing opportunity to interview Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera before their event about their co-written novel, What If It’s Us. It was such a brilliant day and I loved being surrounded by others who love their stories. I feel so lucky that we got the chance to do this as they have both written stories that I completely adore so it was lovely to be able to chat to them about their joint one! Keep reading for the interview (by two best friends, for two best friends – wholesome!) Continue reading

Off The Shelf Event – Jamie Campbell

On Monday night, I got the chance to see a talk with Jamie Campbell (star of documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16 and inspiration for the amazing musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie) as a part of Sheffield’s Off The Shelf Festival of Words. This was in collaboration with Sheffield Doc/Fest where I’m currently a trainee! The talk was called Desert Island Reads and was a spin on the popular BBC Radio 4 programme, Desert Island Discs.  Continue reading

Book Blogging & Mental Health

chatI have a bit of a strange relationship with blogging, reading and generally keeping up with the book blogging community lately. I know I’ve never been the most present on our Twitter and Sarah writes most of the posts for the blog but I’ve felt quite isolated in the online community recently. The reasons are nothing to do with anyone in it but my state of mind right now. This post is mainly just me wanting to vent a little about my conflicting thoughts and also to ask if anyone else has felt similar or has any tips!

Akemi Dawn Bowman Interview

32357878781_c3c8e59425_b

A few weeks ago, we got the wonderful opportunity to interview Akemi Dawn Bowman, author of debut novel, Starfish. It’s a beautifully written book which has difficult and heavy themes, such as abuse and mental health struggles. It also features some wonderfully positive relationships too however. I absolutely fell in love with the book when I read it and it is definitely one of my all time favourites. This is the transcript of the interview! Continue reading
