A little later than usual but here is our Book Club update post! Over September, we read Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman, an author me and Sarah both love the work of. It’s probably the saddest book we will have read to date (though not in terms of the sexuality representation!) which we did warn everyone about prior to starting it. It’s also the first book we have read with asexual and aromantic representation, something which we will of course be reading more of within coming months. Continue reading
Hi everyone, I’m Lois from Lois Reads Books and I am taking over The Little Contemporary Corner today! Sarah and I have spent the last couple of weeks co-reading Naturally Tan by the wonderful Tan France. We have both been wanting to read this book for a while and when a copy came into the library I work at, we decided it was time to finally read it and together. This post is going to be my review of this book and you can pop over to my blog very soon to read Sarah’s wonderful review!
In February, we had the chance to interview the wonderful Laure Eve, author of The Graces, The Curses, The Illusionists and Fearsome Dreamer. It was a great interview and we had a lot of fun. We mainly asked about her writing process, since creative writing is something me and Sarah are really interested in and do ourselves. It’s always fascinating to hear about different authors’ writing processes and this was another insightful chat!
It was my third year at YALC this year, and my second year doing the full weekend. I always have such a fun time with my friends, being surrounded by books and meeting fab authors. I wanted to write an honest post about my YALC experience this year which was wonderful fun with just a couple of issues. Continue reading
Our latest Book Club meet up was last Thursday, a week later than usual as we were both away in London for YALC the week before. We decided to read Heartstopper: Volume One by Alice Oseman for July, a graphic novel developed from her webcomics. You can still read Heartstopper online for free if you wish to! We are continuing using the Google form responses in our Book Club posts to get direct thoughts from people who have read it – those who have both been to Book Club or can’t make it but still want to join the conversation. I picked the ARC of this book up at NYA Lit Fest in Preston. That was in March and I’ve been wanting to read it for a while now. I started reading it over a month ago I think but was super busy with my job at the time and had no spare time to read. I honestly really thought this book was great and I love that it covers such a taboo area in mental illness – psychosis. Continue reading
The more that i’ve been involved in the blogger community and the longer i’ve been doing this, i’ve seen more and more blog discouragement from their owners. It’s gutting sometimes to hear your friends, and some times complete strangers on the internet feel bad about what they’re putting out there. I know i’ve definitely felt like that about my own posts time to time. I wanted to talk a little bit about blog discouragement and how i over came those feelings myself.
