I have a strange relationship with fandoms and struggle to find words to describe how I feel. The best representation I have ever seen of fandoms is in Alice Oseman’s works, particularly I Was Born For This and Radio Silence. I co-read Radio Silence with a few friends recently and we all decided to write a different post celebrating Alice and her work (which we obviously all love!). I decided I had to write about the portrayal of fandoms – it’s a topic I’m very passionate about and I couldn’t wait to write down my thoughts. How Alice Oseman Writes Friendship
I’ve spent a lot of my time in the last couple of years thinking about Alice Oseman’s novels. It’s really hard not to when she writes wonderful stories with wonderful detailing that is hardly ever recognised. Recently, me and some friends co-read Radio Silence and i’ve been thinking about it since.
Favourite Reads of LGBTQ+ Book Club
Our LGBTQ+ Book Club has been on hold a little at the moment due to COVID-19 and everything going on at the moment. I miss it very much, particularly chatting with everyone and having in-depth discussions about various queer books! I thought I’d share some of my personal favourites we have read so far. The OsemanVerse Book Tag
The wonderful Layla at Readable Life created a tag all about Alice Oseman. She’s named it OsemanVerse and honestly as soon as i found out that this was happening i jumped on the chance to be tagged in it. So i want to say a huge thank you to Layla who tagged us in the first post of The OsemanVerse.
LGBTQ+ Book Club – Heartstopper: Volume Two
Last Thursday we met up for our monthly LGBTQ+ Book Club gathering! In July, we read Heartstopper: Volume One by Alice Oseman and had such a great response we decided to carry on with Volume Two. She created these graphic novels based off her webcomics which are available for free online. We will be mainly focusing on thoughts on Volume Two but some Volume One comments will be in this post too – it can be hard to separate for those who read it online and more people could attend Book Club this month so it was really nice to talk about both! People who made it and people who couldn’t but wanted to share their thoughts joined the conversation on our Google form too.

LGBTQ+ Book Club – Heartstopper: Volume One
Our latest Book Club meet up was last Thursday, a week later than usual as we were both away in London for YALC the week before. We decided to read Heartstopper: Volume One by Alice Oseman for July, a graphic novel developed from her webcomics. You can still read Heartstopper online for free if you wish to! We are continuing using the Google form responses in our Book Club posts to get direct thoughts from people who have read it – those who have both been to Book Club or can’t make it but still want to join the conversation.
