I think this is something we all have. You start to read a book and you see a trope start to happen and the more you read, the more it starts falling into all the stereotypes. Sometimes, it’s great because it’s one you love, be it a guilty pleasure or not. Other times, you have to stop yourself rolling your eyes in annoyance of it. I’ve recently been on a trend of trying to organise my life and although I have literally just called this a “trend” I’m hoping it lasts a good while! I’ve been doing everything I can to organise myself and my days and I just want to share what I’m doing and any tips I have!
I have a huge problem with rereading. I don’t mean that I hate it, I just mean that I constantly reread books (or want to at least). For the past two years, one of my resolutions is to reread less and make sure I pick up a new book or one that’s been gathering dust for the past few months or years on my shelf. Today (10th October 2016) is Mental Health Awareness Day. This is a day in order to raise awareness for those health issues that cannot necessarily always be seen. Mental health can range from anything from Anxiety or Depression to Schizophrenia. All of these illnesses are just as important as physical disabilities, and they always need more attention as they are such a taboo topic (shamefully). As it is MHAD, i wanted to collect together some books that i think deal with the mental health topic quite well. Here’s a little list of my favourites in case you would like to learn a little more about mental health in fiction.
When i was looking over my shelves i realised that i have a lot of books by a lot of authors, but magically haven’t read too much buy them. I think a lot of people get in to the habit of buying books by popular authors and forgetting they have five other copies of their work, un-read on their shelves. I am definitely one of those people. It’s easy to get in to a habit of buying a lot of books by one author when you’ve heard they’re really good, you check a few months later and you have seven books by someone and haven’t read one. Here’s my under-read and over-represented list.
If you’re a uni student like i am, you know that your whole world is taken over by (quite frankly boring) academic reading! As much as your try and pretend that you absolutely love your subject more than anything else in the whole entire world, when you’re reading that paper at midnight on how sentences are put together, you really start to loathe it!
