I know, I know. It’s the 28th January. We are almost a whole month into 2021. This is late. But hear me out – time is a social construct so yes I am posting a New Year Book Tag when it’s almost February and you can’t stop me! Just wait til I post my 2020 stats in a couple of weeks (not even joking…). I saw this on my pal Lois’ blog and really wanted to do it!
How many books are you planning on reading in 2021?
I’ve set my challenge on The Storygraph to 52 books which I’ve set for the last few years but never completed! It’s my goal to one year complete it but I’m very chilled about reading goals and don’t mind if I do or don’t complete them.
Name five books you didn’t get to read in 2020 but want to make a priority in 2021?
So so so many! I could honestly list a fair few (many I’ve been meaning to read for well over a year as well…). If I had to pick five that I’m definitely going to make a bigger effort to get read this year then I would choose the books below:
- Love in Colour by Bolu Babalola
- Watch Over Me by Nina LaCour
- The Water Cure by Sophie Mackintosh
- Real Life by Brandon Taylor
- On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong
Name a genre you want to read more of in 2021?
I’d like to read more short story collections and essay collections. I’ve really enjoyed the ones I’ve read recently and I find them really good to read over a fair period of time. I usually try and read them before bed so I can read one a night, and sometimes another in the morning. It’s a nice part of my routine and there are some amazing short stories and essay collections out there.
Three non-book related goals for 2021
I don’t do resolutions and I’m someone who sets myself smaller monthly and weekly goals. However, I do have a couple of intentions I’d like to work towards.
- Set a little time each day specifically to relax (and make sure I do!)
- Learn some more BSL
- Make solid plans with my girlfriend for where we want to live together
What’s a book you’ve had forever that you still need to read?
Again, so so many! One that comes to mind is A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. I’ve owned this for a good few years now and just always forget to pick it up.
One word that you hope 2020 will be?
This is difficult! I’ll go with hopeful.

I know it’s extremely late but if you fancy doing this tag then feel free to give it a go! I hope 2021 is a little easier for us all.
