End of 2020 Reading Wrap-Up

For the first time i think ever, i didn’t post a reading wrap-up in November. I’d honestly been incredibly busy with world, the UK were back in lockdown and i worked through and also i have to admit i’ve been in a little bit of a reading slump. I’ve barely read anything in November so i had no reason to do a wrap-up, so instead, you’ve got a big end of year wrap-up.

I’m quite pleased with what i’ve got read at the end of the year, and i’m really hoping it gives me some good reading vibes for 2021. Here’s what i’ve been reading recently:

My Friend Dahmer by Derf Backderf
I read this back for the Crime Readathon we hosted with Lois at the start of November. I’ve always been incredibly interested in Dahmer and reading this graphic novel gave me a few more insights in to his life.

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
It’s been a good while since I read a straight up crime/thriller, and I really enjoyed having a change of pace. The Silent Patient has been discussed endlessly online, and I went in knowing very little about the plot. I ended up absolutely loving this book. It was fast paced, with an interesting story and everything you would want from a crime thriller.

This Winter by Alice Oseman
We all know that i love Alice, so of course when This Winter was physically released I grabbed myself a copy. This is a wonderfully adorable Christmas novel about Nick & Charlie, Alice’s most well loved characters. I flew through this book and it made me feel very Christmassy.

Survivors by Maggie Oliver
I listened to the audio book of Survivors in November and ended up really enjoying the pace of the non-fiction read. Survivors is about the gang in Rochdale that was uncovered to be abusing young girls. Maggie gives a great account of some of the big facts, and also gives a good look in to her own life while working this case.

Date Me Bryson Keller by Kevin Van Whye
This cheesy YA has been on my shelves since release day, and I don’t know what has put me off reading it until now. It truly was the perfect amount of cheesy YA rom-com I needed during the last months of 2020, and it instantly uplifted my spirits.

Heavy Vinyl by Carly Usdin
I might have nabbed this straight away once I gave it to my boyfriend for Christmas. I’ve been interested in the artwork for a while and I had no clue what the story was based on.

Oh My Gods by Alexandra Sheppard
I really needed a chessy bit of escapism at the beginning of December, and Oh My Gods was the perfect choice for that. I met Alexandra at YALC in 2019, and really enjoyed the time i spent listening to her. It took me long enough to get round to reading her debut but i loved the easy tone, fast paced and interesting story.

A Christmas Gift From Bob by James Bowan
My regular Christmas book hit this year from Bob. Me and my family are big Bob fans so when i saw this book on the shelf i knew i had to grab it. It’s more a story of how James got through Christmas with Bob, and how Bob ultimately gave him something to live for. Incredibly dark at points but absolutely wonderful and i love reading about the bond these two had.

The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse by Charlie Mackesy
I’ve been wanting to read The Boy, The Mole, The Fox & The Horse for a long time, and for some reason my mind kept telling me to put it off. I finally sat down on Boxing Day with this wonderful book, and completely fell in love with it. I don’t have a lot to say about this book, because it was just magnificent.

Meg, Jo, Beth & Amy by Rey Terciero
One of my favourite stories is Little Women. They are my favourite characters and i feel so at home with Little Women. When i found this queer, graphic novel retelling i jumped at the chance of reading it. It was a very fun read, which stuck well to the original story.
