Crime Readathon Update

Hello hello! I haven’t posted much recently and haven’t been on Twitter and Instagram as much as I would like but I am back with a post for our Crime Readathon which is still going on until this Sunday. There’s still chance for you to join in, so pick up a crime book and join us! Read on to find out what I’ve read so far and what I plan on getting finished by Sunday.

So far, I have read two books as part of our Crime Readathon. I am partway through another and have at least two more I’m planning on getting through so I need to get on it! I wanted to share with you my thoughts on what I have read so far and what I plan to read (since I never actually did a TBR!).

The first book I finished was Agent Zaiba Investigates: The Missing Diamonds written by Annabelle Sami and illustrated by Daniela Sosa. I read this for the Middle Grade square on our Bingo Card (pictured below). I enjoyed it a lot! I don’t read many middle grade books so it was a bit of a change but it was a good thing and it was a light read which got me into the Readathon. It’s a book I would have loved when I was a kid – especially as I went through a phase of pretending to be a spy (I always wanted a walkie talkie set as I was convinced this would make me fit the part!). The book follows Zaiba, her best friend, Poppy, and her younger brother, Ali, as they investigate various suspicious events happening at a hotel where they are attending Zaiba’s cousin’s Mehndi party. It’s full of fun, intrigue and is a wonderful book for younger readers! I also have the second book so I am looking forward to reading that too.

The second book I read was rather different to say the least! Samantha Downing’s book, My Lovely Wife, follows a pretty ordinary seeming couple who have dark secrets. It’s full of twists and turns and has a good pacing, keeping the intrigue going. I finished this book in just over a day so I think that speaks for itself. I’m unsure on the ending still but I did thoroughly enjoy the premise and would recommend if thrillers are your thing. I won’t spoil this book for you but I do think the choice of narrator is interesting – I would love to read it from Millicent’s point of view.

Now onto my current read for the bingo card Medical square which is Unnatural Causes: The Life and Many Deaths of Britain’s Top Forensic Pathologist by Dr Richard Shepherd. I started this yesterday and I’m not too far through it yet but I’m enjoying it at the moment. I’m finding it a little slow paced but I do enjoy finding out about the job pathologist’s have – I had no idea about 90% of what I have read so far!

The reads I want to get to before the end of the Readathon are:

  • My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite
  • A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
  • Agent Zaiba Investigates: The Poison Plot by Annabelle Sami

This may be a little ambitious especially as I don’t want to rush any of these but I may be able to do it! Fingers crossed.
