I’ve not bought many books at all this year (mainly because I’ve not had much money to spend and I’ve been trying to save tbh) but over the past six weeks or so I decided to treat myself to a few and figured I should do a little haul! Sarah also did a book haul the other day which you can catch up on here.
I’ve really enjoyed reading from my backlist lately, especially after our Shelf Help Readathon which we hosted with Jaz and Sharn. I remembered how many great books that are gathering dust on my shelves and have been delving into these as well as reading books I’ve borrowed from friends.

However, there have been a few new/more recent releases I’ve really wanted to read. I’m famously (well, amongst those who know me) bad at reading new books as they are published. I’m always so late to the party that it’s finished by the time I arrive! I pre-ordered Love in Colour because I am so excited for it! Some of the books I got recently are newer and others are ones I’ve had my eye on for a while.
The books I have bought/gotten recently are:
- Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo
- Love in Colour by Bolu Babalola
- You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson
- Sweet Sorrow by David Nicholls
- Real Life by Brandon Taylor
- An Orchestra of Minorities by Chigozie Obioma
- Again Again by E. Lockhart
- Spellbook of the Lost and Found by Moïra Fowley Doyle
- Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin (ordered, not yet received!)
I bought all of the books above except for Again Again and Spellbook of the Lost and Found which I got for free from Lois as she was unhauling them. Perks of having friends who own a lot of books is you get first pick when they decide to have an unhaul!
I’m so excited to get stuck into all of these. I’m currently reading You Should See Me in a Crown and plan to start Love in Colour very soon! Giovanni’s Room is our August/September pick for our LGBTQ+ Book Club which we have started back up again (online only for now) so I will also be reading that this month! If you want to join in on this, feel free to! We will be having an online meeting at the end of September to chat about it.
Have you treated yourself to any books this month? Or are there any you are really looking forward to checking out?

I actually just bought The Black Flamingo and I’m so excited to read it ;3;
