Podcast Series: My Dad Wrote a Porno – Blogtober

I think I’ve only posted about two of these so far but I’ve been getting more and more into podcasts (something I probably reiterate in all of these posts!). Today’s is about my most recent podcast fave, My Dad Wrote a Porno which I am absolutely obsessed with.

I only started it a few weeks ago and I’ve been listening to it a lot on my commutes to and from work. I get the coach now (an odd way to commute, I know) and struggle reading for long on this so it gives me more time to listen to some podcasts.

For anyone who isn’t aware of it, My Dad Wrote a Porno is a comedy podcast by three friends – Jamie Morton, James Cooper and Alice Levine. Jamie’s dad – pen name of Rocky Flintstone – has written (and I believe is still writing) erotic fiction called Belinda Blinked. Jamie reads the chapters to his friends and it is ridiculously funny. I only found out about the podcast because of Alice being on a series of Taskmaster (a show I legitimately adore) and hadn’t actually heard of it before that!

There are so many reasons why I love MDWAP but the biggest is the humour. It is genuinely one of the funniest things I’ve ever come across. If I’m feeling a bit down or just not great, I stick an episode of this on and it truly feels like you’re sat with them laughing about this book. It’s ultimate distraction in the best way possible. The storylines are ridiculous, the characters even more so! You have to be careful listening in public because you most likely will end up grinning like an idiot or busting into laughter and trying to hide it from people nearby. Truly a task!

The footnotes are also brilliant – these are extra episodes usually featuring a celebrity fan or just a little extra thing that is always a fantastic bonus (like explaining what the cervix really is because Rocky has zero clue). The amount of massive stars who are mega fans and clearly love going on the podcast is so fab! These eps are truly great embellishments to the main podcast.

I think one of the aspects that makes it work so well is that the three hosts are such close friends. They met at university and have been friends ever since and it comes through in the episodes. It’s clear they have a great rapport and this genuine friendship translates really well onto a podcast.
