It’s been a rough week, and it’s Tuesday. I’ve had a lot happen over the last few days, and my mood has admittedly not been the best, so i jumped on the chance of hanging out with some bookish friends yesterday to do some book shopping!
I haven’t done a proper little book shop since YALC (admittedly not that long ago), but it felt nice to go out and pick some things out that i’ve been excited for.
Myself and some friends (bookish friends) went out for a pre-birthday bowling celebration. It turns out that i’ve not improved on my bowling skills since being the age of ten, i’ve probably dramatically lowered my ability to bowl to be honest, but we had a nice time of eating, book shopping and chatting!
I went to a couple of my favourite spots in Manchester to see what they had and what was recently released considering it’s been so long since i’ve been in to a book shop and just browsed. I came away with four books in the end which i’ve been incredibly excited about for a while, two are new releases and two are ones that i’ve finally gotten around to picking up!
- With The Fire On High by Elizabeth Acevedo
- Pumpkin Heads by Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks
- Queer There And Everywhere by Sarah Prager
- The Prince and The Dressmaker by Jen Wang
Pumpkin Heads and The Prince And The Dressmaker are both books that i’ve been excited for for quite some time. I keep going to pick up The Prince and The Dressmaker and for some reason never make that purchase, but i finally have it and it’s something i’m incredibly excited to read. Pumpkin Heads has been a huge talking point in YA for some time now, so to actually have that in my hands feels ridiculous!
Ever since we started book club i’ve wanted to get my hands on Queer There and Everywhere to dip in and out of and to learn about more queer people that changed the world. It’s incredibly cool to me that there’s even a book profiling the excellent queer people that helped to change the world. I want to learn so much more about those people! And finally With The Fire On High is a novel that i’ve had on my wishlist for about a year now. Again it’s strange to be holding it in my hands as i’ve been so so excited to get hold of it.
Without a doubt everything on this pile will be in my ‘TBR before New Year’ pile, because they’re things i’m excited about. So yeah, i picked up a small little book haul to make myself feel better. I’m about to spend the entire day reading now.
Wonderful little haul – sometimes a couple of new books can cheer me up no end!
