The wonderful Layla at Readable Life created a tag all about Alice Oseman. She’s named it OsemanVerse and honestly as soon as i found out that this was happening i jumped on the chance to be tagged in it. So i want to say a huge thank you to Layla who tagged us in the first post of The OsemanVerse.
This tag is all based around Alice Oseman’s books and her characters. Each question is related to one of her perfect and precious people so i’m excited to join up some characters to some books that i love!
JIMMY KAGA-RICCI
A CHARACTER YOU LOVE THAT OVERCAME SOMETHING HUGE
I don’t know how i’m supposed to answer this without saying Simon Spier. I don’t think i actually love a character more than i love Simon (ha). He’s excellent, and manages to keep his calm throughout everything that happens to him. I’ve had numerous discussions with people about if what Simon overcame (homophobia and a vicious outing) was a huge thing, and i’ve always said it’s one of the biggest things i could imagine in my life that much sexuality trauma in my teenage years. He overcame a huge thing in his life and i’m proud of that small child.
ROWAN OMONDI
FAVOURITE PROTECTIVE CHARACTER
Todd from The Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness always comes to me as a really protective character, and that’s the thing i love the most about him. Throughout the entire series he constantly is trying to protect others, no matter who that might be. He’s truly the dad character i’ve wanted my whole life.
LISTER BIRD
CHARACTER THAT OOZES CHARM
I hate my answer to this question, but i feel like it’s necessary. I’ve recently read The Place I Cried In Public by Holly Bourne, and Reese from that book oozes charm, in a very uncleanly way. I hate the fact he is my answer for this, considering the nature of his character, but i did find myself falling for him right at the beginning of the book, and adoring his character. He is charming in all the wrong ways!
ANGEL RAHIMI
BOOK YOU’RE THE MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT
I never thought i’d say this, but Girls Of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngyn is something i’ve become incredibly passionate about and a story and world i don’t think i could live without now. It’s my go-to recommendation at the moment and i’m so passionate about the messages this book gives and the topics it discusses.
CHARLIE SPRING
FAVOURITE BOOKISH OTP
This is also something i’ve read recently, but i fell in love with Simone and Miles from Full Disclosure by Camryn Garrett. Their relationship is adorable and they’re such a good fit for each other. I really did love them and i felt myself squealing more than once or twice while reading it…
TORI SPRING
MOST MYSTERIOUS BOOK YOU’VE READ
I was actually talking about this book the other day and realised that i don’t talk about it nearly enough. Bright Young Things by Scarlett Thomas is one of the most mysterious reads i’ve ever come across. The entire plot is never actually explained but it’s still one of the best and most interesting books i’ve ever read. It’s so mysterious it’s been about eight years and i still have no clue what happened in that book.
NICK NELSON
FAVOURITE BOOK THAT BRINGS YOU JOY
There are so many books that bring me joy that i cannot possibly choose one. However, something that has brought me a lot of joy recently is Heartstopper by Alice Oseman, and one of the reasons for that is Nick Nelson. All of the characters are incredibly wholesome and it’s full of happy scenes that i adore. Any time i pick up Heartstopper i cannot help but be filled with happiness.
NELLIE
FAVOURITE BOOK TO SNUGGLE UP WITH
One of my more recent favourites to snuggle up with is Long Way To A Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. I found myself under a blanket with this book many times, and feeling really cosy whilst imagining a big wide world out there. It’s definitely something i didn’t expect to love snuggling up with.
LED LAST
A BOOK THAT HELPED YOU GET THROUGH A ROUGH TIME
To be honest, there are quite a lot of books that have helped me through a rough time. I generally read a lot when i’m mentally ill or having a bad time. I always remember having a little bit of a hard time in my first job, i was quite mentally ill and the business just wasn’t going as well as they expected it to, and i started to read The 100 series by Kass Morgan. I think from then on they’ve always been a comfort read to me and will always be there if i need them.
FRANCES JANVIER
A CHARACTER WITH TONS OF DETERMINATION
Although i didn’t love the book, Rosie from Rosie Loves Jack by Mel Darbon is full of determination, and i did like her character for that. She never gave up trying to reach her boyfriend, no matter what stood in her way. It was incredibly sweet and her determination just to get through life honestly inspired me.
Thanks again to Layla for tagging us in this tag, i had an absolute blast remembering these wonderful characters and playing around with my answers. I want to spread the joy with this tag and i’m going to tag my fellow Alice appreciators:
Lois from Lois Reads Books
