It’s about time for a bit of housekeeping on the blog! It’s been a little bit of time since i’ve written a general post about book club and the updates that we have made. I have a couple of book club related announcements to share!
We’ve been running out LGBTQ+ book club in the real life world for over a year now, and it’s something that me and Sophie are both incredibly proud of. We’ve stuck to it, created a wonderful atmosphere for people to chat and make friends and thankfully, we’ve been told we’ve created quite a ‘safe space’ for people to talk about LGBTQ+ issues. Which really is what we wanted from the whole experience.
Not only do we talk about the book that we are reading that month, but we also chat about other books, authors, LGBTQ+ issues/news etc and we have a cake break with time for making friends! This is one of my favourite parts of the evening because we can have a great chat about books.
It’s something that we never intended to be strict with. Book choices have mostly been down to the attendees, sessions are lead by everyone and it’s an incredibly relaxed atmosphere. Come and go as you please and we often get months where attendees haven’t read the book but want to come for a chat. It’s more than welcomed!
Some of my favourite months have been Proud the Anthology and Girls Of Paper And Fire by Natasha Ngan. Books that give us plenty to talk about and are quite different are always fun. That being said, we’ve already set the books for the next three months of book club, and we hope you’re as excited as we are for them! The books and dates are as follows:
May 30th 2019 – Perks Of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
June 27th 2019 – Birthday by Meredith Russo
July (Date to be confirmed due to YALC) – Heartstopper Vol 1 by Alice Oseman
Reading Perks is something myself and Sophie have been excited about for some time. It’s such a wonderful book with plenty of representation, and one that means a lot to both of us personally.
We also have some exciting things prepared for June with Birthday by Meredith Russo. I’ve been in contact with the wonderful Stevie at Usborne Publishing about getting you all some goodies for the evening and making the most buzz about Birthday as possible! I really hope as many of you can turn up as possible, i think it’s going to be a really fun evening.
Drop us a message in the comments if you want any more information about book club!
