The day finally came where we started to get announcements for the YALC guests this year. It’s always my favourite time of the reading year when we get some information of what books to be reading before the event in July.
Personally, i really love structured reading. I don’t do well with TBR piles because i know that there’s nothing to lose if i don’t complete that list for the month. However before YALC when the stakes are a little higher (of having no idea whats going on) on not reading the book, i’m a lot more motivated to read from a TBR.
Having the first YALC announcement means that i can start my TBR in preparation for YALC. I want to try and read three or four YALC related books a month until the event, with a book for pleasure (they’re all for pleasure really) in a month too.
From the first twenty authors been announced, i have a TBR of six books so far. This is probably more than i wanted because who knows how many other authors are going to be announced, and i’m definitely setting myself up for a big task.
The books that i have added to my TBR so far are:
- Needlework by Deirdre Sullivan
- Solitaire by Alice Oseman
- Editing Emma by Chloe Seager
- The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton
- Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman
- The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
Luckily i already own five out of six of these books, and i’ve been meaning to get around to all of them for a while. One of the things i love most about YALC TBR’s is that i’m forced to read books that i already own a lot of the time. They’re books that i wouldn’t think about reading because they’ve been on my shelf for a while now, so i’m being pushed to read more.
I think i’m going to start Editing Emma and Needlework pretty soon, as i’ve heard great things about both of them. I’m honestly so excited about getting some structured reading back in!
Let me know what books you’re reading for YALC so far!
Starfish is amazing! I’m seriously considering going to YALC on the Sunday simply to get my hardback signed 😂

Starfish is sooo high up my wish list now! It was already, but that announcement just made the thing go up, up, up! I think my YALC-shelf on Goodreads has 17 books on it now, haha. I don’t know if I’ll read every single one or buy every one. I still need to check out the reviews to make up my mind. I want to keep it.. realistic? Especially since this was only the first announcement of how many?!
The Belles is not on mine though. I heard some things about it that made me go “nopenopenope” all the way but I do hope you enjoy it! 😀

Needlework is great, but a little grim.
I need to sort out my YALC TBR too.
