I’ve wanted to make a post about my reading habits for a while now, but i find myself being unable to structure anything of this nature. I can’t just write about my reading habits, i need to be prompted with questions. It’s a good thing i found the Reading Habits Tag by TheBookJazz!
Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
I can pretty much read anywhere at home, and i will do. But my favourite place to read at home is in bed. It’s the most comfortable place to read and i like being surrounded by blankets and the rest of my books. It’s also the place where i can make it as quiet or loud as i want it to be. A perfect reading place.
Bookmark or random piece of paper?
Bookmark! I cannot stand using just anything as a bookmark when there are so many pretty bookmarks for offer! They’re one of the few things i collect so i have a wide choice of them now.
Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?
I usually have to stop reading at a chapter. If the chapters are huge then i will have to stop at a suitable place where i can easily pick up the story again. For pages, i like to read at least 20 pages in one sitting (can you count that as a sitting?) so i feel like i’m making a reasonable amount of progress.
Do you eat or drink while reading?
I usually have a drink while reading. Usually a tea. However i only have a snack while i’m reading if i read in the afternoon.
Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?
Not usually the TV. If i’m re-reading or reading something easy, i can have the TV on in the background if someone else is watching it. However otherwise i would not put it on myself. I have changed my mind about music a little. I used to have to have silence when i was reading, how i really enjoy listening to some easy music. I think i’ve developed this habit from more cafe reading and definitely my partner (he reads with music).
One book at a time or several at once?
I used to religiously read one book at once. However i’ve recently started to enjoy having a non-fiction and fiction book on the go at once. I have slipped out of this habit recently, and i want to get back in to it.
Reading at home or everywhere?
Both! I really love reading at home because you can be the most comfortable, however i tend to focus quite a lot more when i’m anywhere else. So i’ll pretty much read everywhere.
Reading out loud or silently in your head?Silently. Does anyone actually read out loud? I read much slower out loud and also my own voice puts me off.
Do you read ahead or even skip pages?
I’ve never done this. I very rarely skim read even because i’m too paranoid about missing important information.
Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
It depends on the book i’m reading and what mood i’m in. If it’s an important book to me, or one i think will be one of my favourites, i try and keep the book as clean and new as i can. However i don’t mind breaking the spine on some books.
Do you write in your books?
Nope, never have done, doubt i ever will. I tend to mark my books with sticky notes, however won’t write in them. I actually don’t know anyone that does this.
So there is a little bit more about my reading habits. I’m not going to tag anyone, but if you want to do it, consider yourself tagged!
Happy reading! I’m actually going to get back to reading now.
I think this is a great idea for a blog post, think I’ll do one myself. My reading habits are fairly similar to yourself. I have a play list on Spotify called Reading chill out and it’s just relaxing music that I put on while I’m reading. I find it very relaxing.
I also love a good cup of tea whilst reading or a mug of hot coco in the evening or a sneaky glass of gin 😉
I also love collecting bookmarks, my pet peeve is when people dog end book pages and the thought of writing in a book makes me feel faint I remember at shool when they told us to write in our books in English lit I think I almost fainted lol.
