It’s been a while since i ventured in to the world of book tags (to be honest, it’s been a while since i’ve had the time to do so). Christmas is the perfect time to browse the internet for some new tags that i’ve not come across before, and this year i found The Joy Of Christmas Book Tag.
I’m going to answer these questions from 2017 going in to 2018. It gives me chance to highlight new releases and books that i’ve recently read!
1) Anticipation: The Christmas excitement is real, what book release(s) are you most anticipating?
I don’t have a whole lot of books that i’m excited about next year so far. I haven’t seen many announcements that i have put down in my diary already. I do know that Carrie Hope Fletcher will be releasing her third novel, which i am incredibly excited for. She’s a wonderful author and her stories really do make you forget about the world.
2) Christmas Songs & Carols: What book or author can you not help but sing praises for?
If we’re talking 2017 authors alone, i haven’t been able to stop thinking about Caroline Smailes. I read The Drowning Of Author Braxton right at the beginning of 2017 and i’ve told everyone about this book. The story and writing are phenomenal. I fell completely in love with her as an author and more people should read this book!
3) Gingerbread Houses: What book or series has wonderful world building?
The most stand-out world building of the year for me comes from Flight Of A Starling by Lisa Heathfield. I found the atmosphere she created to be so magical and memorable that i haven’t stopped thinking about that story since. What an incredible author that i was very lucky to discover in 2017.
4) A Christmas Carol: Favorite classic or one that you want to read.
In 2018 one of my goals is to read some more classics. I want to read something by Dicken’s first and foremost. Maybe Oliver Twist or Hard Times will be top of that list. I will be turning 23 in 2018 and i’m disappointed by how few classics i’ve read in those 23 years. Hopefully reading a few in 2018 will make me fall in love with them.
5) Christmas Sweets: What book would you love to receive for Christmas?
The one book i’ve been after for a long time is Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls. It was released earlier this year and whereas intended for people most likely younger than i am, i feel like i could learn a lot from this book.
6) Candles in the Window: What book gives you that warm fuzzy feeling?
This year the one book that stood out giving me warm, fuzzy feelings was A Quiet Kind Of Thunder by Sara Barnard. I read this quite early on in the year and it still stands as my favourite contemporary of the year. It was so simply written but the relationship aspect was so realistic and raw. I absolutely adored it and it definitely gave me book butterflies.
7) Christmas Trees & Decorations: What are some of your favorite book covers.
2017 has given us some absolutely stunning book covers, i feel like we’ve been spoiled a little bit. One of my favourite covers of the year has to be Moonrise by Sarah Crossan. It was designed so beautifully and i like how unassuming it is to the actual story. I also really loved the design and colours of We Are Okay by Nina LaCour and Release by Patrick Ness.
8) Christmas Joy: What are some of your favorite things about Christmas And/Or some of your favorite Christmas memories?
Christmas is easily my favourite time of the year. It’s an excuse to see family and friends that you don’t always get time to see (because everyone makes more of an effort at Christmas), spend time doing things you love and it feels like such a wind-down time. I absolutely love it. That combined with the amount of decorations and lights around makes me very happy.
One of my most simple Christmas pleasures is sitting and reading under blankets whilst it’s cold outside, knowing i don’t have to leave the house. It’s such a relaxing atmosphere to sit by a tree and read. I also very much enjoy Christmas tradition. From making mince pies on Christmas Eve to watching a Christmas Movie as a wind-down on Christmas night. Seeing friends on the 23rd to exchange presents and setting my ‘done for the holidays’ tweet on the blog Twitter account. I love it all!
I found this tag on Verity’s blog, Fandoms Run The World. I’m not sure who it was created by as there was no information on there, but i tag Charlotte at Wonderfully Bookish and Annalise at Annalise Books to let us know their joys of Christmas!
