BEDM: The Mr. Men & Little Miss Character Tag

We were recently tagged in The Mr. Men & Little Miss Character Tag, created by Charlotte at Wonderfully Bookish. We both absolutely adore this tag, choosing our favourite characters that matched up with characters from the beloved childhood Mr. Men series.

Sarah: Glass from The 100 Series by Kass Morgan
Glass is such an undermined character who I actually adore. She’s feisty, sassy, strong and everything else you would aspire to be. Originally she’s seen very much as a ‘girly girl’ and not a valuable character to the story, but her parts of the series are easily my favourite. You see her grow so much as a person throughout the books. Also (spoiler) seeing her get a girlfriend made me squeal uncontrollably and I adore her a lot.
Sophie: Levi from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Yes, I know I recently did a post about how I wasn’t a fan of Fangirl but I loved Levi so much! Honestly, I think he is the reason I carried on with the book. Levi is such a happy bean; he’s constantly smiling (genuine smiles!), he treats everyone well and tries his best to be optimistic and happy around everybody he meets. He effortlessly enjoys life and other people; honestly, he is so positive, it’s infectious.

Sarah: Legend from Caraval by Stephanie Garber
Any time that I talk about magical characters, Legend is always my go-to now. If you haven’t read this novel about a magical game that is hosted by the ringmaster Legend then you really should because it was the most magical story I’ve read in a long time. Okay, so he’s not the greatest character by any means, however, he is one of the most magical and he gives off a feeling of security in the magic that he deals out. I absolutely love his character (even though you probably shouldn’t) and his addition to the book makes me very happy.
Sophie: Dante Quintana from Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz
I know he isn’t magical in the wizard sense; Dante may not run around casting spells but he is just the most magical character I have ever come across. The way Ari describes him adds to this feeling but it’s Dante’s personality that makes him truly magical. He embodies sunshine and happiness and optimism. He is everything I love about human beings and shows the wonderfully unique ways of seeing the world that people have. If there were more people who viewed the world the way Dante does, the world would be a more magical place to live.

Sarah: Radar from Paper Towns by John Green
Radar will always be my answer for these type questions. I absolutely adore him. He’s hilarious for a background character and makes such an impression on the story even within his small part. He’s hardly in the book, he has the odd scene where he’s helping to find Margo, but he’s memorable. As a secondary character, he’s bloody brilliant.
Sophie: Dean Thomas from the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling
I hear you screaming “ONE POST WHERE SOMEONE DOESN’T MENTION HARRY POTTER” but Dean Thomas is so underrated it’s an offence to literature (yeah, I said it). Honestly, what a gem that boy is. He has his muggle football team posters up on his walls and struggles to understand Quidditch because he thinks its the same as football. I always remember a little section saying he drew a banner for Harry which is really good and I just always think of him as secretly very artistic. I probably have more Dean headcanons than is written about him in the books but I just love his presence!

Sarah: Deanna Madden from The Girl In 6E by A. R. Torre
It’s not the fact that Deanna rakes in her cash from online webcam sex sites, it’s the fact she’s a killer. She has a compulsion to kill anyone she comes in contact with, that’s why she holds herself up in her apartment and hasn’t left in three years. She’s killed before and definitely will do again if she’s let loose. To the point that within the book Deanna even attempted murder on someone she actually was falling in love with. Talk about a character that does bad things!
Sophie: Amy Dunne from Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
Pretty sure this isn’t a spoiler by now but if you haven’t heard anything about Gone Girl, don’t read this part! “Bad things” is probably an understatement for Amy Dunne, but she is definitely my pick for this one. I love her character so much because of how fascinating and, to be honest, smart she is. I’ve not read many female characters written in such a way and it really was interesting to read! Amy is manipulative and although you sometimes feel like Nick deserves some of the things she throws at him, she is very, very cruel.

Sarah: Kitty from the Lara Jean trilogy by Jenny Han
Kitty has always been one of my favourite characters, and my love for her only grew in Jenny Han’s final installment of the series, Always and Forever, Lara Jean. She’s grown in to such a fiesty and funny character it’s really hard not to laugh out loud at some of her comments. Her attitude an the way she gets around things makes you think she’s going to grow up in to an incredible character.
Sophie: Becky Bloomwood from The Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella
Shockingly, I haven’t reread these books recently but I have read them so much that Becky Bloomwood feels like a sister to me (strange because my actual sister is also called Rebecca but completely different to the character). The best thing about Becky is her talent for getting herself into the most ridiculous situations and making them awkward and even more ridiculous with the way she handles herself. Her personality is so vibrant and hilarious, she just can’t get through a day without drama. I find myself grateful to never be in her situation but I also smile throughout reading. Her funny quirks and wonderful personality are the best things about the series.

Sarah: Evie Snow from On The Other Side by Carrie Hope Fletcher
I’ve always admired Evie for her brilliant decision making. She’s incredibly intelligent in her own way and a character that I really look up to. She makes the best decisions for her and her family. She’s a wonderful character who has always felt more real than fictional to me. Evie is very much a quietly intelligent person, she’s not seen as someone highly intelligent. She’s a creative wonder but needs to be brought forward as someone who is incredibly smart about life.
Sophie: Commander Melissa Lewis in The Martian by Andy Weir
This was a difficult decision as there are a lot of brainy characters I love – I narrowed it down to The Martian but I still struggled to pick just one! However, Commander Lewis stood out to me when I first read it and I truly believe she makes great decisions on behalf of her crew. Admittedly, she had to leave Watney behind on Mars but she did believe him to be dead and had to save the rest of her crew. She is clearly intelligent since she is an astronaut but she is smart, logical and empathetic in so many ways. She’s also obsessed with disco music; irrelevant, but truly an important part of the novel!
