Christmas Book Haul

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas with families and friends, and lets face it, i also hope Santa left some nice books for you on the 25th. I had a really great Christmas, shut off from the world with my nearest and dearest and to be honest, did a lot of lazing around reading. I also happened to get a lot of great books for Christmas.

I was lucky enough to receive books that i asked for, along with some surprises from my family and friends to keep my TBR shelf piled high for the new year. With so many great releases towards the end of 2016, it’s not really a surprise that the majority of presents i had under my tree were book related. Here are the ones i got:

 

Inkheart by Cornellia Funke
This was one of the surprise presents i received this year from my girlfriend. I’d spoke about it with her a lot as it’s one of her favourite novels, and something she grew up on. I didn’t really know what to expect opening her gift, but from reading the back i’m quite excited to get to this now.

 

Paperweight by Meg Haston
This was another, somewhat of a surprise as i received this book from my Wonderfully Bookish Secret Santa! This year, Charlotte hosted a Secret Santa, which entailed us buying a book for someone and sending it to them. I took part in this and gave my list to who i now know is Donna from Bramble Books! I was lucky enough to not just receive Paperweight, but a whole host of bookish goodies, including some of the best bookmarks i own!

 

One Million Lovely Letters by Jodi Ann Bickley
It has become somewhat of a Christmas tradition for me and Sophie to buy each other a gift. This year we figured we should challenge ourselves and set a theme of the gift. So we choose to buy only non-fiction for each other (as neither of us have many). I got One Million Lovely Letters from Sophie, and without ever mentioning it to her, i have been looking at this for quite some time. The collection is Jodi Ann Bickley’s inspirational story of illness, and i cannot wait to read it.

 

The Sun Is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon
I have been waiting for this book for literally months. It’s been one of the most anticipated books of the year for me after reading Everything Everything and adoring it. It’s one of the books i asked for and am particularly excited to get stuck in to this diverse read (I’m already reading it, expect a review coming soon!)

 

Rebellion (The 100) by Kass Morgan
I’ve talked about The 100 a lot recently on this blog, that’s because i’m so in love with the series it’s ridiculous. I first started this sci-fi novel series back in summer, and have since read the following three books to which i thought that was the end. However, since discovering that the fourth novel was to be released in December, i had to make sure it was preordered for my Christmas list!

 

Girl Up by Laura Bates
This was another read on my wishlist that i was very excited to get. I’ve been after a strong feminism book for quite some time, and after flicking through one of my friends copies, figured this would be a perfect read! I also picked this up for Sophie as her gift for the non-fiction present.

 

Swallows and Amazons by Authur Ransome
My best friend surprised me with this, and i don’t know how i hadn’t thought of it. It has been on my wishlist for a while, and as it is her favourite children’s book, i wasn’t overly shocked when i finally pulled back the paper on it. I cannot wait to dive in to this and find out what all the fuss is about finally. Also one of the main reasons for wanting this novel is to read before the watching the film adaptation. It was released in the summer of 2016 and was actually filmed in one of my favourite places!

 

A Long Way To A Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
Another book that has been on my list for a long time, but was a total surprise when i opened it. I’ve been after more diverse reads that i wouldn’t normally get in to, so sci-fi seemed like a good option when i put it on my wishlist a few months back. Shannan from Twenty Something and Day Dreaming gave me this as this years gift and i’m so excited to get stuck in (how did she know??)!

 

So those are all of the books that i got under my tree this Christmas, some of them i have been waiting a long time for, so am more than pleased i can now read them! I’m sure it will keep me plenty busy in the new year.
