I hope the readalong is going really well for everyone! We are now halfway through and today is number 7 of 12 stories! You can still join, we are halfway through which just means if you read two short stories a day you can catch up in no time. Or you can read them out of order (the joy of books of short stories!) Sarah gave her thoughts on the first two stories a few days ago and I will briefly review what I think of stories 3 to 6!
The third story in the book is Angels in the Snow by Matt de la Peña. I absolutely loved this story and it is my favourite of the six so far. Shy is such a loveable character and I really do adore the writing of this story. It’s such a simple premise but it works really well and I felt so warm and happy after reading it. I really want to check out some of his other work now too!
Fourth is a story by Jenny Han called Polaris is Where You’ll Find Me. At first, I was unsure about this one but once I read more I loved it! It’s very different to the others as its set in the North Pole and has Santa and Elves feature, whereas the others are more based in reality. I read this in about 10 minutes as it is so short! It’s an adorable little story which is definitely worth a read.
Stephanie Perkins’ story It’s a Yuletide Miracle, Charlie Brown is number 5! This is a slightly longer one than the rest (or at least, I felt it was). I enjoyed this one too though I felt the middle of it dragged a little. The characters, again, were lovely though and this one is the most festive so far in my opinion! I loved how wintery it felt and Marigold is a wonderful protagonist.
The sixth story is Your Temporary Santa by David Levithan. Both Sarah and I love David Levithan so this was an exciting one to reach! This featured the first non-straight relationship (representation!) so far which is nice to see. This story was really quite adorable and kind of angsty? I really liked the main character, he is such a sweetheart and sees things in such a lovely way.
I hope everyone is loving the readalong so far – I’m absolutely loving it! I’m excited for the next six stories. I feel very Christmassy whenever I sit down to read one which is magical. Let us know how you’re getting on at our Twitter @TLCCBlog and tweet with the hashtag #TLCCreadalong!
