Reading Update

I as of today have handed in all of the essays that I need to complete to finish my course. Yes that does in fact mean that I have completed a full English Language and Creative Writing course, I am rather proud of myself. Yes I need to wait for those grades to come back, and my last day in university isn’t until Wednesday when I have a presentation, but I’m already thinking about all the books I want to get to when I have so much more time to read without feeling guilty. And guess what? That time starts now!

I’ve had a list for quite a while (the majority of this year) of books that I knew I wouldn’t have time for whilst in the middle of uni work. Books that I know are going to take up a lot of my time, I’ll have to focus on them more or generally they’re just really long. But now I’m nearing the end of my course I have so much time to read. For example I sat for a whole afternoon with a book and felt no guilt for doing it, it was absolute bliss! So here are some of the books that I really want to get to now that I have the time!

To Kill a Mockingbird and Go Set A Watchman by Harper Lee
I started To Kill a Mockingbird a few years ago and didn’t enjoy it too much, then again I only got 30 pages in to it. I want to finish it and pick up Go Set A Watchman, the somewhat sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird. Now i have more time to focus on these books with no worries in the back of my mind i hope i’ll enjoy them.

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy

I’ve been meaning to pick up The 5th Wave for months, and ideally I wanted it read before the movie came out. That has clearly long gone. I knew that it would take me a while to read and would require a lot of my concentration, I think now is the time to read it.

The Complete Short Stories of Roald Dahl
A few months back I picked up volume one and two of the Complete Short Stories of Roald Dahl very very cheap. They’re quite big books if you don’t have time to read through them from start to finish, but while I have the time I really want to make a good go of it and see how many stories I can get read. I’ve been really enjoying short stories recently so hopefully I’ll enjoy these.

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
I’ve had The Goldfinch on my shelf for a few years now, and I actually included it in my books that I was intimidated by purely because of the size. However I’ve heard great things about Donna Tartt’s writing and in particular this novel. I really want to get around to it soon when I’m feeling more in the mood for some adult fiction.

These are just a couple of the books that I want to get around to reading soon. I’m currently getting through some of the books that I really wanted to savor and enjoy instead of stress reading to procrastinate from essay writing! Starting with The Space Between Trees which I really am enjoying so far.

This was just kind of an update post, letting you know what I’m currently reading and what I wanted to get on to pretty soon.

Happy reading everyone!
