It’s not every day that you get to meet one of your favourite authors (okay, favourite human beings) but I was lucky enough to finally meet Mrs Giovanna Fletcher over the weekend. Giovanna is the author of three novels (Billy and Me, You’re the One That I Want & Dream A Little Dream) and also two novellas (Christmas with Billy and Me & Dream A Little Christmas Dream.) Luckily, she’s currently working on a fourth novel that I cannot wait to get stuck in to in the New Year!
Giovanna is my go-to author. No matter what kind of mood you’re in, if you like a chick-lit contemporary novel you cannot go wrong with Giovanna’s quirky yet ‘real’ style of writing. She truly captures what life is like for a twenty-something woman in the 21st century and that is very refreshing to read sometimes. Adult contemporary is not usually a genre that I would enjoy but I’ve laughed and cried with her novels, its hard not to love them!
Especially in Billy and Me and Dream a Little Dream, Giovanna adds something that chick-lit novels don’t usually have, and that’s originality. There are not many adult novels which are based on falling in love with movie stars, and there are few which are done so well, but Giovanna makes it completely believable. I fell in love with the quirky aspects to her writing.
As a big reader, we all have our authors which truly mean something to us. John Green, J.K. Rowling, Colleen Hoover – any of these authors can inspire us in some kind of way. For me that author is Giovanna Fletcher. When Billy and Me was released I was at a crossroads where I didn’t know what I wanted to study at University, or what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I found so much joy in Billy and Me that it made me release that I wanted to make other people feel that kind of joy with something that I’ve written. Giovanna inspired me to write creatively and create stories for other people to read.
I had the pleasure on Saturday of being able to meet her at her book signing in Manchester (I’ve been trying for a good few years to meet her and it just never happened.) I’m so very happy to say that Giovanna is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met before. I know that’s a very big statement but she truly is lovely and to meet someone who means a lot to you and have a positive experience is incredible.
Meeting your favourite authors is an incredible experience because you’ve met someone who’s made you laugh, cry and become angry with the power of words and stories. I definitely feel very lucky and grateful to have met such an inspiring woman.
