Harry Potter Illustrated Edition

Chat Header

Yesterday the day was officially upon us, it was the release of the illustrated edition of Harry Potter and Philosophers Stone!

It honestly feels like we’ve been waited years and years for this and in a way I guess all PotterHeads have! I’m a huge (absolutely huge) Harry Potter fan so i have quite literally been bouncing off the walls the last week as i’ve waited for the arrival of this book! After my accommodation office messed around a lot with my order I finally got my hands on a copy of it this afternoon. I must say it is more stunning than I could have ever dreamed.

For the people that might not have known that the book was being released (seriously where have you been?) Bloomsbury have released a new edition of the first book in the Harry Potter series. Supposedly they will be releasing the next in the series each year around October until the collection is once again complete. These editions have been illustrated by Jim Kay and are the original story of Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, just with some images dotted around the pages.

Honestly, I did deliberate for a while whether buying the illustrated copy would be worth it, I already own all the books so what’s the point in just having another edition? But I must say that this illustrated copy is absolutely stunning. I was unsure whether the nature of the book would come across as a little childlike, somewhat similar to Beatrix Potter. However that isn’t the case at all. It’s been so well crafted it looks like a piece of art in itself. You do not have to have an interest in art or illustration to appreciate the hours gone in to it.

I cannot tell you how much I have fallen in love with this book. We all know the story of Harry Potter and most of us have read it before but I don’t think it will compare to reading it with the wonderful illustrations side by side with the magical world.
