Halloween is coming up pretty quickly and I’m sure what everyone is thinking is “what is going to be my Halloween read?”
Well here at the Little Contemporary Corner we’ve certainly been thinking hard about what Halloween themed read we want to dive in to over the festive(?) period. Between the two of us we have come up with (drum roll please) … Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs!
Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children is a YA fantasy and supernatural novel based around an abandoned orphanage on a mysterious island. It’s release in 2013 and second and third novels released in 2015 proved it to be so popular that now a movie adaptation is being filmed by none other than Tim Burton. Miss Peregrines is something that neither me nor Sophie have read before, we’ve left it far too long but definitely want to join in the excitement for the upcoming movie!
That is why from October the 28th to November the 4th 2015 we will be hosting a read-a-long for Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children. I definitely will be moving on to Hollow City straight afterwards if anyone would like to join me in reading that! We think that these spooky novels will be perfect for tucking ourselves up in blankets on Halloween and reading until our hearts are content – or we’re too scared to sleep.
You don’t have to join in with the read-a-long and there is no obligation to even read it in that week time period. The week is just there to give us a guide line of when we personally want to be done by. Both Sophie and I will be posting updates about where we’re up to, what we think of the book so far and general bookish feelings throughout that week! We’d love to talk to loads of you about it as well in the comments!
If you fancy joining our read-along then all you need to do is start reading on the 28th of October! Easy stuff!
Happy (almost) Halloween!

As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

Fun idea. Enjoy! I’m currently reading the sequel – which, I must admit is not quite as captivating as the first 😦
